|Rationale:||The purpose of this activity is to locate and describe many important United States physical and man-made features.
|Objectives:||The students will establish the location of important United States physical and man-made features.|

|GEORGIA PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:||SS4G1 The student will be able to locate important physical and man-made features in the United States.
a. Locate major physical features of the United States; include the Atlantic Coastal Plain, the Great Plains, the Continental Divide, the Great Basin, Death Valley, the Gulf of Mexico, the St. Lawrence River, and the Great Lakes.
b. Locate major man-made features; the Erie Canal.
|Requirements and Resources:||Use atlases, encyclopedias, and textbooks to locate the features plotted on the map.
Utilize map attachment and description sheet.
|Checklist of Classroom Procedures:||Students work in groups to arrive at a description and location of each of the features. Atlases, encyclopedias, and textbooks can be utilized to arrive at personal descriptions for each feature. Group descriptions can then be combined to arrive at a class description.|
|Concluding Activity:||Have the students use index cards to make study cards for the quiz. Students should write the name of the feature on the front and the description of each feature on back of the card.|
